UPDATED AUG 2010 “Field sketching and painting lies at the core of my work as an artist. My sketchbooks are the "raw material" of my art. When working on location, I always carry a 9" x 12" spiral-bound sketchbook and an assortment of soft drawing pencils. Color is added in the field or immediately upon return to the studio. Since 1983, when I began sketching outdoors on a regular basis, I've filled more than seventy sketchbooks with thousands of drawings of birds, mammals, plants and landscapes.
